How long does it take to complete genetic testing?
The results of a cytogenetic or molecular cytogenetic (FISH) test are normally available after 1-2 weeks. In some cases, results are available after 3-4 days. Upon request, clarification of trisomy in newborns can be performed with a FISH test using a peripheral blood smear. In this case, test results are available one day after sample receipt. This also applies to FISH aneuploidy screening of amniotic fluid. Chromosome analyses performed on cell cultures (amniotic fluid, chorionic villi, abort tissue, and skin fibroblasts) take about 10-14 days.
The duration of molecular genetic testing varies and can range from 1 week to 3 months; specific information can be found on the corresponding pages of our website.
