What are balanced chromosome changes?

Balanced chromosome changes are structural changes most often without DNA loss or gain. Carriers of balanced chromosome changes often exhibit no clinical signs of illness; their health is not affected. Nevertheless, carriers of balanced chromosome changes do have a higher risk of giving birth to a child with an unbalanced karyotype.
